Tameside BAME Cancer Awareness and Support Project

In partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support

Due to COVID-19 all of our projects are currently running at a limited capacity or altered focus. For more details of current project work please see the COVID-19 support page.

What is it?

We are working to deliver a Tameside BAME Cancer Champion project working primarily, but not exclusively, with Pakistani and Bangladeshi residents, in the areas of prevention, screening, early detection, point of diagnosis and beyond.  We are creating support groups within the community and recruit volunteers to support the aims and values of this project.

People accessing the project will receive culturally sensitive, local, accessible information to link them to the available support and help, informing and empowering people affected by cancer across Tameside with language support.

Who is it for?

Tameside BAME communities, primarily but not exclusively, with Pakistani and Bangladeshi residents.

As a volunteer you will:

  • Gain confidence talking to people about cancer
  • Increase your knowledge cancer signs and symptoms, process and support available
  • Meet new people
  • Be trained to become a Cancer Champions and be supported to volunteer in the hospital with Macmillan
